My Project

"Summer Slide" is when students don't practice academics during summer break and their literacy and math skills decrease over time. After noticing this during the COVID break, Our school started a Summer Bootcamp. This short academic boost to start summer has made a difference in the past few years. This is our third year of our bootcamp and we want to ensure our students continue to read even after they leave us for break. Your donation will help our students take home the books they start with us during our bootcamp.

Some students who go through our program have never owned a book of their own.

We will start these novels during our Summer Bootcamp, which is directly after school ends. After they successfully complete the bootcamp, we will send students home during the summer to finish the novels that we started. Your donation will not only give them something that every student should own (books) but also allow students to continue practicing their literacy skills by reading the rest of the novel on their own. The titles selected, Schooled by Gordon Korman and This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston, are student favorites and highly engaging. Students will also complete writing pieces, narrative, and argument, that relate to the texts. I am confident that with your donation, our students' skills will only continue to grow.
