Though our Community Projects have not formally begun, the tools acquired through this project have already been put to use in US History. \r\n\r\n One of my goals for students is to improve their self-management skills and using the green bins for tasks has been a game-changer. I can add all of the materials students need for the period and they are taking on more of the responsibility of gathering the tools, using them, and keeping an organized workspace. This has given my 8th graders more independence, a skill they will need next year in high school. \r\n\r\n The markers and scissors have also helped me create a classroom space where students take on the responsibility of locating and using the tools they need. I've set up a system so that students aren't dependent on me to get them what they need. They know where materials and tools are located, can access them as needed, and the focus remains on the lesson in class. \r\n\r\n Thank you once again for aide in building the classroom my students deserve. With the books I was able to receive, my classroom library has improved not only in quantity but in quality as well. Students have been so excited to browse and read the new available titles!\r\n\r\nMy students are lucky enough to have 2 language arts classes during the day. In both of these classes, students are reading whole class novels, book clubs, short stories, and nonfiction texts. While some students enjoy reading the materials provided in class, some simply do not find them interesting or enjoyable. Independent reading is an opportunity for students to choose any book they are interested in reading. Students can practice the skills of good readers in texts that they are genuinely interested in. Without a variety of titles, students would not be able to find the books that are just right for them. Your donation has helped bring variety to my room, and my students appreciate it!\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your generous donation! My students' faces light up when they find a book that they love and connect with. From organizing local awareness campaigns to preparing informative materials for school-wide events, they are learning the value of clear communication and presentation. The laminator has been especially popular, helping to preserve posters, signs, and informational flyers that will be used repeatedly throughout the year.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only provided helpful tools but has also empowered students to take pride in their work and understand the importance of giving back to their community. I am truly grateful and so are my students. Through your donations they got the supplies they needed to create change in the school community. As part of their Community Projects students have distributed pencils to teachers and students, created cleaning and facial tissue stations for each grade to use as needed, and organized our Community hub space. I am so proud at their ability to impact our school and our Sunset Family, taking action and following through with their plans. \r\n\r\n My students were elated at the response to this project. Students have a limited time frame to put their plans into action and your help with these supplies allowed them to take the actions they planned on during the research and planning phases. When the boxes arrived they were almost immediately unpacked and their plans were put into action. They felt great pride in being able to hand out pencils to their teachers and fellow students. They know how many boxes of tissues and cleaning wipes teachers have purchased this cold and flu season and their stations filled with supplies are already being used by teachers in all three middle school grades.\r\n\r\n This project has inspired my students as they finish up their final year in middle school. I can't thank you enough and I plan to use this as an example of the power of community as I work with incoming 8th graders in the fall for another year. Starting a Yoga and Meditation Club for my 8th graders has been something I've wanted to try for a few years, but now its actually happening. When students saw the boxes of yoga mats arrive they were very excited. Seeing them arranged in the baskets with the yoga blocks increased that feeling. \r\n My plan is to create times during lunch where students sign up for a \"drop in\" style yoga or meditation experience. This allows small groups to try out either yoga or meditation without the commitment of joining a club they're unsure of. It's working out because I have multiple people coming to lunch to give some yoga and meditation a try. This has also given me to amazing opportunity for students to see me as more than just their US History teacher. I don't spend all my time talking about government, but I have a variety of interests and abilities. I want them to be multifaceted people and I want to serve as an example for them. \r\n I can't thank you enough for helping give my students the opportunity to try out a new activity that might help them to relax as they transition to high school and all of the responsibilities that come with it. I hope they will continue to consider it as they move on from middle school and it becomes another tool/strategy they have to help them as they grow next year in 9th grade.","fullyFundedDate":1733275569285,"projectUrl":"project/meditation-and-yoga-to-relieve-stress-in/8953061/","projectTitle":"Meditation and Yoga to Relieve Stress in 8th Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Buccheri","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5263474_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1550691648976","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-buccheri"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_69443","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":334,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":67.2,"schoolId":69443,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sunset Ridge School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sunset Ridge School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/east-hartford-public-schools/sunset-ridge-school/69443"}
