Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students really love coming to school. Our school is a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch which means that our students come from low income families. They deal with a lot of stress at home and that stress most often comes with them when they enter the school building.

In my classroom, I focus on capturing the hearts of students by building meaningful relationships with each child.

Having a positive impact on our students is very important to every person who works at our school. We know that the stress that the kids bring with them from home can greatly impact how they learn. Teachers and staff strive each and every day to make sure that we speak to students in the hallways, we shake their hands as they enter the classrooms, we sit and talk with students at lunch, and we play with them at recess. We understand that our students come first. We understand that in order for us to be able to teach them, they have to feel safe and loved by the people around them. Each teacher at my school genuinely loves teaching!

My Project

My classroom is going to look a lot different this year because of Covid-19. I want my students to feel as safe and as close to normal as possible. One way I plan to do that is by having students' supplies ready for them to use for normal lessons and projects in a socially distant manner. This means all supplies will have to be kept separate in pencil pouches and storage boxes that I have included in this project.

I want to make sure that Covid-19 doesn't change the interactive and engaging way that I teach this year.

I want to still have fun lessons, even though we will be socially distant. I want my students to still want to come to school and learn every day. These supplies will ensure that we can stay safe and have fun while we are learning! I plan on reading the books I have selected to my class about germs and having some powerful discussions about how we can keep ourselves safe as well as the people around us safe during this time.
