Help me give my students access to their own set of manipulatives to learn chemistry with a Cricut Maker!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Miller's classroom raised $561
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are each unique as both their personalities and learning styles. While some of them are quiet and auditory learners, others are boisterous and visual learners. When they enter my classroom, all of my students are engaged, inquisitive, and curious. Most importantly, though, all of my students are thoughtful, caring, and respectful.
My Project
In order for students to learn chemistry, manipulatives such as beads, modeling kits, and plastic chips are often used to represent the microscopic atoms and molecules under investigation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, students can no longer share supplies and now each require their own set of materials.
A Cricut Maker would allow each of my students to receive personal manipulatives that can be used to explore chemistry.
The Cricut Maker would allow me to quickly and efficiently cut materials for all of my students and ensure each student received exactly the same size, shape, and color materials. If my students had to prepare their own manipulatives by cutting paper first, we would waste precious class time that could be spent learning.
Some examples of lessons the Cricut Maker would be used to create manipulatives for are as follows:
1. Parts of the atom - The Cricut Maker could cut cardstock protons, neutrons, and electrons as different color and size circles that students could then move around an atom template to build atoms and isotopes.
2. Bonding - The Cricut Maker could cut pieces of wood with notches to represent lone and bonding pairs of electrons that students could link together like puzzle pieces to show how atoms bond.
3. Chemical reactions - The Cricut Maker could cut felt circles to represent atoms that students could move around their desk to show atomic rearrangements in different chemical reactions.
In summary, a Cricut Maker would allow all of my students to be able to have access to manipulatives to explore the microscopic world of chemistry.
