This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an inner city school in Los Angeles. Our students are from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English language learners (ELLs) with roots in Latin America. The neighborhood is currently changing, so we are developing a diverse population with many types of needs.
We are a STEM magnet that caters to unique and motivated students in Los Angeles.
Our children love to learn and constantly challenge us to meet their unique needs and ignite their passion for learning.
The school is 100 years old and we have multiple generations of students who have attended the school. Although the neighborhood is changing, many of the families remain the same.
My Project
I am kindly requesting multicultural books for our classroom library. My students love to read books and we are excited about all the new books about various cultures.
My students enjoy reading stories about their families and culture.
Adding books to our library will help build students' confidence and teach all students about the differences that exist between us. It will help our students become culturally sensitive to each other's uniqueness.
One of the students' favorite activities is reading together in our classroom library. Students enjoy sitting with each other and sharing stories. They enjoy being read to as well. These books will provide new ideas and encourage thoughtful discussions about our differences.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
