This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have been working SO hard with virtual learning! I am anxiously preparing for my kindergarten class of 2020-2021 to return back into the classroom. We have been virtual for the past month and a half. This year I am committed to helping these kids see themselves as capable learners, to learn a growth mindset, that they can persevere through tricky things, and to be a group of friends.

My classroom is comprised of children from various backgrounds.

Our school is a Title I school, serving those coming from a low socio-economic background. My students represent various ethnic and religious groups, adding to a rich culture on Zoom and soon in our room. Some students are be proficient in English, while others are developing their English language skills in our class. In addition to various English language abilities, our school is very inclusive with various ability levels and socio-emotional needs in the room. I adore these hard working kindergartners and am excited to be part of a year of their growth!

My Project

A printer? I know. There are many printers at schools. But color printers? Only one at our school, and it is not easily accessible. An in-class printer will help me color my room to increase engagement. With transitioning back into the classroom, we will need more individual materials for the students. Instead of using plain black and white resources, I would love to give my students individualized and personalized colored resources to help practice and reiterate concepts we are working on.

Oscar Wilde once penned, "Mere color can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways."
