I have taught Pre-K for over 10 years and what I love about this age is the way they explore learning opportunities. In our classroom we use different modalities of learning in order for all students to access the learning and content of the various lessons which include math, writing, and English language arts, as well as centers-based play.
In early childhood education we emphasize learning and practicing social skills as vital parts of the students' school experience.
This aspect of my teaching creates a safe space for students to interact with their peers. They learn how to share, take turns, describe emotions and respond to their emotions and others in appropriate ways. This helps them to become good citizens of their classrooms, homes and communities.
I would love to provide my students with opportunities that the school, myself or families are unable to provide due to funding and financial barriers.
New sets of markers and crayons will replace the dried up and mismatched capped markers and broken and paper-torn-off crayons from the beginning of the year supply list. Our markers and crayons have served us well but we want to replace them with fresh materials that will last until the end of the school year.
Markers and crayons are consistenty used for journaling and illustrating during our writing block and writing center.
We also have a different art center each week that requires various colorful materials. This unit in math, we are focused on patterns and having multiple colors for each student to access makes learning more equitable. There are so many uses for markers and crayons within a classroom, my favorite being a ‘well done’ hand stamp!
