My Students
Remember the magic of science class when you were growing up? Physics opens up a world of wonder and excitement for young minds. While learning important concepts, we get to have fun with the coolest toys in school.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and, from the start, I try to instill a sense of wonder and awe in science.
The magic of Physics comes alive in my room with interactive projects, hands-on labs, and mind-blowing demos that reveal deep misconceptions most of us have about how things work. On the first day of school, my students work together to try to understand how Lenz' Law works (without ever having been taught the concept). It's amazing to see the ideas that sprout forth on that first day. From then on, they are constantly challenged and must defend their positions with evidence.
My Project
When students are being evaluated in Physics on a test, I always assess them through multiple choice questions as well as full blown problems they have to solve. I go through loads of materials to this end. One of the most expensive are the multiple choice scantron pages the students can use for the multiple choice parts of the assessment.
So much of my classroom is divided into colors for organizational purposes that I need to get students used to moving to areas of the room according to colors that are chosen by (or for) them.
Colorful storage baskets on the tables will allow me to keep materials for each island of desks. Each lab area has a different color associated with it. My students have colors on their desks. Computers are color coded. The spot for their phones are color coded. It makes it so much easier on me and on them. My students will be able to use the colored tape and colored paper to create and label projects from their different groups in the class. Many lab activities need to measure irregular objects... the flexible metric tape measures will allow things like globes and curved ramps to be measured. I appreciate you taking the time to consider this project. If my students are more efficient in their lab activities and motion around the room, we will have much more time for meaningful engaging lessons.
