Colorful Paper to Start the Day

My students need colored paper for their daily Do Now so they can start class ready for learning, not hunting for materials.

My Students

All of my students are wonderful, quirky individuals. They find common bonds, make each other laugh, and push each other to think.

In our small, diverse urban school, everyone knows everyone and we thrive on diversity.

Students speak multiple languages at home and come from five continents. This enriches our study of world history and our community as a whole. However, with the small family feel, students also hold each other accountable. They may fight like siblings, but they support and accept each other, too.

Over 60% of students in our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. They come from neighborhoods from all around San Francisco, and when they meet at school, they are genuinely happy to be there.

My Project

We start each class period with a Do Now task - a question to engage students, and get them thinking about the world history content for that day. Starting with a Do Now also ensures that students have a pen or pencil out to use in class that day. Students use one sheet of paper for the Do Now all week.

Many students do not have materials to bring to school, so providing students with paper helps them feel more prepared for learning.

Making the Do Now paper blue helps to locate the form in a backpack or binder, so students do not lose learning time hunting for paper.
