Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What makes my students special is their drive to learn! This year I have students who are in their first year of full English instruction. It's exciting to see their determination to learn in a language that is relatively new for them in terms of academics.

My students are from the first or second Mexican American generation, and they live in a 95% minority neighborhood.

Ninety-five percent of these students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school is 95% low income and is located in the heart of a community that is changing drastically. The majority of our teachers are extremely hardworking and work extended hours in order for us to provide the best education to our students!

My Project

This projects has various purposes for my students. We do a lot of writing in my classroom. It gives students the chance to expand and apply many skills(comprehension, phonics, sight words and their writing). However, with 2nd graders they love to use special supplies like markers and crayons as much as they can. So having these markers and crayons will allow for students to create illustrations to go with their writing stories. I also feel since students don't have art classes it's a good opportunity to incorporate that into our writing.

Students love to make drawings colorful and having these supplies will keep motivating them to add details to their work.

The dry eraser markers and erasers are needed for our learning centers that we use daily. We go through so many dry erasers markers before half of the year. So having these would just help keep these centers running for the second half of the year. I also think the students just love using these, they think it's cool!. However, for me it's finding ways to engage them to practice their skills and these supplies help do that! Hope you can help.
