My students represent a diverse community of learners. Their age ranges from four to fourteen years and their language proficiency varies from entering to bridging. The students come from across the globe from the Himalayas to the Andes. On any given day, I hear students speaking Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, Russian, and Urdu. These students are united by the same goal of learning English and reaching proficiency in academic and interpersonal communication. I am committed to providing them with challenging assignments that would be both linguistically accessible and content rich.
My Project
The materials in this project will help my students connect with geography. The students will use colorful printed maps to identify places we are learning about, find similarities and differences between maps and globes, and become more competent in using the concepts of geography to learn about the world. Students will be able to continue using the globes and maps at home to further the impact of the project.
As the ELL students are learning about climate zones, earth's continents, seasons, or human-created boundaries, they will be able to interact with the supplementary materials in this project and make learning more memorable.
