I encourage my students to set big goals that with passion and hard work can be reachable. Our school's mission is to promote lifelong learning through a caring and nurturing environment. It's not just a high school; it's a safe place for my students to understand and better themselves for their future successes.
Our school is an academic alternative high school that prepares students for global citizenship and set high expectations for them.
We teach and accept students who don't typically fit in on a big campus or have had a hard situation at home. We inspire them to attend career classes at a local community college, so they will have the tools to succeed in life. I would like to give them the tools so they can adapt and become knowledgeable of the world they live in. We are a close-knit family and learn how to adapt and overcome obstacles. We encourage our students to follow their dreams and go places that they never thought possible.
Most of my students struggle with learning new concepts in history due to different learning disabilities. When I print pictures, maps and charts in color, it helps them tremendously. It helps draw interest and see the details in the most important things.
We are running low in ink in my classroom, therefore we need more to fuel our learning.
I have several students that are experiencing PTSD due to Hurricane Harvey. It is still so fresh on their minds. Many helped in rescue efforts and had a lot of their belongings damaged in the floods. Paying full attention in class is a struggle, because of the traumatic impact it had on their families and the community. The color print outs him them focus on the task at hand instead of the flashbacks of the hurricane.
