We are a Title I school because 90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I strive to help meet the needs of every art student by affording them access to the best art supplies and enriching experiences through the arts.
I incorporate P.E., music, math, reading, writing, geography, technology, and social-emotional learning for cross-curriculum connections through the arts.
We are also focusing on a global theme this year since we are a culturally diverse school, and are learning and exploring different countries and their cultures, art, artifacts, history, and more.
In these difficult times, art provides an outlet for creativity, self-expression, relaxation, and diversion, which is greatly needed.
Our theme is a global theme where we focus on art and artists from different cultures. I also incorporate teaching through music, art, history, math, science and and social emotional learning through the arts.
I have requested books like: You're Perfect the Way You Are!, I Want to Ride the Tap Tap, Tiny Travelers Haiti Treasure Quest, Janjak and Freda Go to the Iron Market and Haiti Is, to learn about Racial Justice and Representation in literature.
Students will be inspired by these stories and discuss their heritage and more.
Additionally, we are a culturally diverse school, and many of the students are from Haiti.
Students will create Colorful Haitian Houses using the books for visual references. The tissue paper squares and Triple Thick Gloss Glaze requested will help in the creation of mini houses created from mat board shapes of squares, rectangles, and triangles. The will also serve as visual reminders when they are displayed in school about the Haitian culture and learning about Racial Justice and Representation
