This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our library is in the process of transitioning from static shelving where books are organized by the author’s last name in rows with the spines facing out to dynamic shelving where books are still organized by the author’s last name, but are separated by genre with color coded labels, shelving, and signage and are displayed with the cover facing out.
At HMS library, it is our mission to make sure every student is able to find the books and resources they need for research and enjoyment with ease.
When our students visit the library, they are in a hurry with limited time to be able to browse the shelves for a book. Having books displayed on tables and the fiction collection organized by genre helps, but having the color coded genre sections stand out more would make it easier and quicker for our students to find the books they like.
Table covers will add polish to our book displays making them more attractive to students. With colorful masking tape and paper on shelves, the students will be able to see the genre sections from anywhere in the library making it easier for students to get to their favorite books.
