My class is an energetic group of Kindergarten and 1st graders always looking for new ways to learn. My students like to have hands-on experiences. I have nine adventurous students with autism, developmental delays, and moderate to severe and profound disabilities. My school services pre-K through 3rd grade students from all over the city of Chicago.
Multi-sensory, durable, and reusable materials are helpful in our classroom.
We create many books to share with our students and families. My class varies in their communication, social, behavioral, and academic skills and needs. They need these materials to help them learn at their level. My goal is to prepare students for the next level of their education with various means to teaching them the current classroom topics.
My Project
The project is designed to teach students more about their culture. My students are visual and tactile learners. Having access to books that represent their culture in my classroom is important.
Creating colorful books for my visual learners with colorful pieces makes learning more tangible.
The color toner will give my students access to online books that I can print for them since many of their cultures have limited picture books available. Color toner for the printer will allow for the teacher and staff to print student work that they create electronically.
The OSMO little genius kit will give my culturally diverse, special needs students and opportunity to learn foundational skills in a fun and interactive manner. The students will have access to fun ways to learn their colors, shapes, and letters along with basic words. This device pairs well with activities the students have access to on our classroom iPad.
