Help me give my students diverse chapter books and graphic novels for our school library so they can see themselves reflected in the books they read.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Zito's classroom raised $315
This project is fully funded
My Project
At our elementary school, the library is a center of literacy and learning for over 500 students in grades PreK-5. We strive to create an environment where all students have access to reading materials that represent and affirm their cultural and racial identities.
It is so important that our library collection accurately reflects the diversity of our school population.
Our New York City students come from a large variety of different backgrounds, and so should the characters in our library. When students see themselves represented in the books they read, it helps to validate their experiences and foster a sense of belonging. We want our library collection to promote inclusivity, especially for students who may not regularly see their lives reflected in the media they consume.
If funded, this project will support the purchase of diverse new novels and graphic novels for our school library. These books will be added to the school library collection, where they will be read by students for years to come!
More than half of students from low‑income households
