Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach students with diverse learning styles and interests in a large public school district. The majority of my students read and write below grade level, but still continue to work hard towards improving as students and individuals, despite many of them doubting their capabilities. It is incredibly rewarding to me when I see my students excel.
The majority of my students face many challenges at home and at school, but still strive to be the best they can be.
My class places a focus on community and the power of dedication and teamwork, which makes many of my students feel at home in class. While my students develop and practice life skills through learning content standards, my hope is that they practice these habits in the outside world and make a difference.
My Project
The printers at my school do not print in color, and are often in need of repairs. These materials will make it possible for me to provide my students with lessons outside of the textbook, utilizing print-documents and color images. My students love doing "Museum Activities" and rotation activities where they can take turns analyzing a document or image at a station. They also love to analyze pictures that help paint a picture of the time-period we are studying in history class. I try to provide these engaging activities much as possible, but it can be expensive and challenging at times to provide them to all five subject areas/classes I teach.
