Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun-loving, smart, and hardworking! Our students come from all across the city to participate in the unique ELL (English Language Learner) and ASD program specific for grades 6-8.

My students come from all different backgrounds to create a positive learning environment, where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and create works of art.

It is truly a unique urban setting.

Students at our middle school take an art class for an entire school year as a required elective and specials class and range in different skill levels and abilities.

My Project

Due to the current events surrounding COVID-19, I am creating bags of supplies so that students do not need to share materials (and spread germs). There is still a lot of uncertainty for the 2021-2022 school year, and since the individual bags of supplies was successful for this current school year, I am hoping to provide them for my students again next year as well.

Safety and health for my students is a top priority.

By providing individual packs of supplies for my students, I am hoping to alleviate some of the worries that they may encounter next year regarding what they can create in art class. My students were very excited this year to find out that they could still create artwork, as opposed to just working on digital devices since they each would have their own set of art materials.

In the event that students transition to at-home/virtual learning, I would like to send materials home with students so that they can still create artwork. During the 2019-2020 school year, many students did not have access to basic school/art materials and were unable to create art while learning at home. During the 2020-2021 school year, all art supplies were supplies to students and all my students were then able to create artwork whether they were at-home virtual learners or in-person learners.

Students will use these colored pencils for many different projects from graffiti murals to landscapes and still-life drawings.
