My Students

Imagine being asked to count the blue bottles, and they are just in black and white. This is what is happening in our classroom! We cannot print in color. We work together in stations that need to be in color. This is a wonderful way for our class to build a team feeling in the classroom.

I am so lucky to teach where I do.

My students come from a variety of circumstances. We live in a very rural area, and many of my students have not been exposed to a lot of amenities. We love our country life, but need access to more at our school. My students are hard working students that may not have a lot at home. I want to be able to show them how important education is because they may not see that at home. It is my goal as their teacher to show them how learning can be fun, interactive, and rewarding. This is extremely important to me.

My Project

My students need a color printer and ink to print learning stations and other activities to enhance their writing and learning. In our classroom we have literacy and math stations. These are activities that they do as a team to continue learning things we have already taught in the classroom. They have to be able to work with their team member together to find the answers, matches, etc. The activities are something that need to be printed off in colored ink. This is something we do not have at our school. The activities are created to be used in color. There are many math activities that ask to count or look at the colored objects. If I print them in black and white, they do not work. I then have to print, color, and then hope I colored correctly! It has been a challenge, and I want my students to be able to have the best learning resources available.

Being able to provide math and literacy stations is something that I have noticed solidifies their knowledge on everything I am able to teach.

Without a color printer, this goes from being solidified, to only partially or not at all solidified. Printing in color is crucial to these literacy and math stations to work effectively. My students need to be able to understand the skills I teach them because everything builds upon them.
