Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are AWESOME! It’s a simple word, but it’s also a perfect word to describe them! Many of our students have been unsuccessful on state assessment, but their learning potential and desire to succeed remain in tact. They crave independence and self-accountability, so when I give them these challenges, they do step up with effort. When they see their own growth and potential that they often had never considered, they become excited learners, ready to “ambush” me with more questions and possible solutions: all of this with pride in their eyes! Many of our students lack either support or the ability to receive support at home. That’s where we are working on ways to assist in their ability to self-monitor and our ability to help them do so. I am in the process of trying to create a data wall that will help us, as teachers, monitor their growth to help them achieve next level success; however, the supplies are limited as well as our own personal financial ability. This will allow us to visually track their progress and see them move up the ladder in a way that we can meaningfully assist them in being self-accountable and self-aware.
My Project
With this project, teachers will be able to create a visual data tracking wall that will allow us to better serve our students. This is a project that can be done without the use of color; however, research has proven that the use of color assists in the learning process. Teachers and students will both have the ability to distinguish between the different data in a meaningful way in order to quickly and visually assess the forward mobility of student data in regards to reporting chategories. Student strengths as well as weaknesses will also be better emphasized for the teacher and student’s ability to attack problem areas and utilize student strengths in a strategic manner.
