This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a Special Education Support Services Teacher. I serve students mostly in grades 2-5. Students are served either individually or in small groups. This is my first year in this position servicing kids in this capacity. This position is designed to help students in need of additional supports in reading, writing and math. The degrees of support are varying depending on student individual needs. A combination of the pandemic and their disabilities have left my students at a critical disadvantage. With many resources being online, we need the capabilities to print and more importantly in color for students with dyxlexia.
My Project
Color helps students see the world differently. Especially with my students who have varying reading disabilities. color can help open the doors to reading for a student who is struggling with dyslexia. They are able to see text and pictures in a way that allows their minds to identify and put together sounds. Color printing is not readily available and cost a fortune to go to an office chain for printing. Being able to print materials in color may seem not so important, but it can make a world of difference to a struggling student learning how to read.
