Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Donor, I am currently teaching in a dual-language (English - Spanish), ICT (integrated co-teaching) 4th-grade classroom in a diverse inclusive school in New York. Some of my students have recently arrived in the United States and do not speak English yet. Some have been given Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), and so I need to adapt the curriculum to better suit their needs. My students' reading, writing, and math skills range from Kindergarten level to 7th-grade level, and so I find myself supplementing curriculum materials with charts and worksheets that I create myself.
I want to give my students interesting and colorful materials that are more impactful and memorable to them.
Since the learning needs in my class are so varied, I find myself often using visuals so that my students can better understand what we are talking about. There is a big difference in terms of visual interest between a document that is black and white and one with the visual flair that colors bring to the page.
Your donation would not only serve my class. We plan to share the use and cost of maintenance amongst our colleagues. Our class is not the only dual-language class in our grade and we usually work closely to develop materials for our students.
