Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is truly unfortunate that the students of our school enter a building every day that is well over 100 years old. The building facilities are run down. The windows in the classrooms do not open and if they do, they are propped open by books. The school grounds are protected by a metal fence with gates, but within the fence there are broken and bent rails. Is this a building that replicates the vision of an inviting school?
One hundred percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.
At snack time they receive a healthy snack consisting of a fruit or vegetable. On Fridays, students receive backpacks with food for the weekend. With all this said, yes, we are a high poverty school but we are also a school that promotes an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for our children and their families. This is a place for our students to feel safe, protected, and valued. There is such great potential within each and every one of my students. They just need to be nourished with education and love and they will grow. But without the proper resources, they will simply become discouraged.
My Project
My students and I need the Epson ink cartridges for our classroom printer. My students are always typing poems, essays, and developing projects that contain pictures or graphic organizers in Language Arts and Social Studies. The colored cartridges allow the pictures to POP!!
"This is Jeopardy!" Expo markers are extremely useful when students are in whole group and small groups instruction.
The students use the markers to write on individual white boards to practice spelling and to play Jeopardy for Social Studies test preparation.
Lastly, I am constantly writing notes and modeling graphic organizers on chart paper for my students. I seem to be always going through the Sharpie Chart markers.
