My Project

I teach Forensic Science at a suburban high school with a diverse student population and a strong focus on science and technology. Our students are curious, creative, and love learning through projects and activities. My classes serve the full spectrum of the student population. As college and career classes continue to be more important in the high school, so does the need for supplies to properly conduct these classes. I want to nurture excitement, innate curiosity, and good forensic science laboratory skills.

My Year 2 students are looking forward to conducting drug and poison analysis next school year.

My students will perform presumptive chemical tests on drugs and poisons, identify unknown samples based on chemical test results, and examine urine for evidence of heavy metal poisoning.

In this lab, my students will learn the difference between forensic chemistry and forensic toxicology. They will gain knowledge and understanding of how over-the-counter drugs, controlled drugs, and illegal drugs may act as toxins. They will have the opportunity to perform presumptive chemical tests on drugs and poisons, identify unknown samples based on chemical test results and examine urine for evidence of heavy metal poisoning using chromatography.
