My students need to have learning materials printed with a color laser printer because color is an essential building block for learning in all areas of their life.
The mission of our school is to build a strong bridge between home and school early learning experiences, and to create a safe, welcoming, developmentally appropriate environment where learning is joyful and accessible for all students. Our vision is to develop capable individuals, curious learners, and contributing citizens.
Our school is a culturally and academically diverse school that serves students with a strong instructional program, a wide range of activities, an extensive student recognition program and an ongoing partnership with parents and the community.
The school is in the second year of being open. This year we will qualify a Title I School with more than half of of our population receiving free or reduced lunches. My classrom as a whole consiststs of a variety of students with a variety of backgrounds. This year I have students experiencing financial hardships, loss of family, various health needs, and more. For many students, due to their parents working all day, they don't have a chance to see them but for a brief time in the evening. Despite whatever is going on in my student's lives, they love school, they work hard, and they know I care about them! They are amazing!!
My Project
In kindergarten, students learn so much about the world around them! They learn about mathematics, reading, writing, technology, art, PE, music, science, social studies, and much, much, more! Now imagine learning in each of these areas in only black in white. Students understand somewhat about what they are learning, however, not entirely because they cannot experience what is truly looks like due to a lack of color. Now imagine a students who is learning English for the first time in their life, they are a kindergartner and are new to everything around them. All their learning is done in black and white and are having a difficult time relating because of the lack of color. All of this is the reason why I would like to have a color printer in my classroom.
Color is the essential building block students will use for learning in all areas of their life.
Currently we have the ability to print some items in color in our building, however, I find myself printing many items at home because I feel the need to print a lot of learning materials at home to help support students. We would like to have a printer in our classroom to have the ability to promptly print items when needed by my students. With so many different areas of learning, color recognition can provide students with essential tools. In the area of mathematics, they can use printed materials in color to help sort, compare, and organize. In addition, students can use items printed in color to help understand, describer, and strengthen their ability to communicate about the world around them. Color also plays an important part in students connecting to the space around them. Color can impact a child's mood, behavior, and productivity in the classroom.
