This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am honored to teach in elementary school.
Children are our future.
It is essential teachers give students the materials necessary to help them to succeed both academically as well as socially and emotionally.
I teach in a school where over half of the children come from families who live below the poverty line. Multiple families living in one home, homelessness, and many other struggles face these families. It is a wonder to me every day, that with all that is going on, the children are still able to immerse themselves in their education.
As teachers, we work hard to show these kids they are valued. When drawing pictures of themselves, they often have to settle with using peach or brown-colored crayons. I would like all of the children to see themselves represented so they feel the value we are trying to express to them. The crayons will provide them with a little more self-expression, self-worth, and personal pride.
