This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help us COLOR outside of the lines and THINK outside of the box!
My students are eighth graders from an urban community.
They attend a public charter school that aims to prepare students for the college and careers of their choice. Along their educational journey, my students are still developing organizational and test-taking strategies. In a society that measures knowledge through standardized testing, my students should be equipped with test-taking strategies that will organize their thoughts and improve their critical thinking skills.
My Project
The resources requested will allow students to interact with passages and problems as they prepare for high-stakes tests. The resources will offer them a creative strategy to keep track of what they read, analyze concepts, identify question stems, and utilize process of elimination. The use of these colorful supplies increases student motivations and provides a new way to conceptualize text for visual and kinesthetic learners.
The use of the colored pencils (which won't need sharpening!) will allow students to take turns implementing different strategies with the same text. Each student will choose a specific color that they will use throughout the reading of the passage and in answering questions, which will allow me as a teacher to evaluate the collaboration that took place and intervention strategies that may better allow students to answer questions correctly.
Add color to the youth of today by providing them with the opportunity to use these supplies to improve organizational, spatial, and test-taking skills!
The donation of these supplies will provide students with a lifetime of test-taking success!
