Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school services 449 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. Our students are diverse, creative, energetic and involved. Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, we are a unique and diverse community with students coming from all over the US, France, Central America, and South America. Many have immigrated to the US and are learning a second and even third language. Additionally, some students are on free and reduced lunch.

Our school is historically and architecturally significant to our community.

The first public school in present-day Miami-Dade County, a small wooden schoolhouse, founded in 1887 with eleven pupils was removed from the site and retained. The present building was built in 1911. Frank B. Stoneman, editor of the Miami Herald and father of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, delivered the dedication address. That being said, while our Media Center is quaint and inviting, our space is outdated and there are some upgrades that my students would benefit from. Our library is the heart of the school, the school's largest classroom, that gives students a comfortable place to be themselves while exploring resources.

My Project

The Media Center is the hub of my school. Having a color printer and ink will help showcase authors, books, student projects, and decorate our walls. As of now I have limited resources when it comes to printing in color, usually going to Office Depot to print.

This printer and ink will make a tremendous difference in our school library and impact every student in the school.

With a color printer and ink, students will be able to increase their visual creativity and print creations like author studies, animal brochures, comic strips, environmental posters, and other creations in color. A color printer would be used and appreciated daily.
