Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a great class! My first-grade students come from low-income families. I have parents who are willing to help them at home when needed. All students receive complimentary breakfast and lunch. For many of my students, English is not their first language. I use many pictures to introduce and explain new vocabulary.
My classroom is also a technology-enriched environment with students who are eager to learn.
They are always excited to learn, and I couldn't have asked for a better class!
My Project
Having a color printer available for our first-grade team means creating engaging reading and math activities for our students to practice in small groups or individually. At the beginning of first grade, students review letter names and sounds. Having colorful pictures for students to match beginning letter sounds with letters will help them strengthen their skills. This is especially needed this year!
Throughout the school year, students will work on learning story elements(ELA.1.RL.1.3), text features(ELA.1.RI.1.5), addition and subtraction facts(Math.1.OA.A.1), shapes(Math.1.G.A.1), and much more.
All of these standards will benefit from having centers in color. Students are much more engaged when they can see the details in their work with vibrant colors.
