My students live in a world of flash and apps and are not happy with the dullness of pen and pencils on white paper. Help bring in color and sound to liven up our U.S. History and World History classes!
My students live and attend school in an urban high school located in Southern California.
The students at my school attend one of three brand new magnet programs, ours being one that focuses on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. Though our school has reopened with a new identity and vision for our future, the students struggle with the old mentality that it is okay to not achieve educational excellence because it is what has been the norm in the past. I am here to change that false impression, one class period at a time.
The colored pencils and markers will allow students to create maps, posters, and projects that are visually stimulating and will also allow students to complete hands on projects that address the needs of kinesthetic learners; this is extremely important to our special needs students as they are taught in the general education classrooms in a full inclusion model (there are no longer separate special education classes at our school). Adding speakers and a remote presenter will allow me to add video clips to presentations and also give me the freedom to be anywhere in my class while presenting.
Funding my project will allow my classes to have access to basic supplies that are unavailable to many of them because they live at or below poverty levels.
Any donation amount moves us closer to a more visually interesting learning environment, as well as my heartfelt thanks!
