This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Collett's Cougar Council is a student leadership group made up of 65 responsible and innovative 4th and 5th graders focused on learning to empower themselves and their fellow students. Our purpose is to serve and lead our school by being proactive in causes that we care about, setting goals for our school community, communicating with the student body, and forming relationships with all our fellow students.

The materials we are requesting will help us host events and rallies for all of our students from TK up to 5th grade, and will allow us to serve our school!

We have been taking ownership of how our school runs, by planning and hosting rallies that celebrate student achievements, both big and small. We will use the portable sound system for this, as well as for hosting fun recess and lunch activities. This year we are inviting our families to school to have lunch on the lawn as well as hosting family reading mornings. We are requesting safety vests for our student council morning greeters, who stand out at student drop off welcoming every child to school, and wish parents a wonderful day. Poster board will come in handy for making motivational signs to hang around school or wave at our rallies.

One of our goals is to recognize every student on their birthday. We will be creating handmade cards and assembling and delivering small goody bags to each student, so they all understand how important they are to our school. We have also requested fun little prizes that can be used to reinforce exemplar behaviors among all students showing good character.

These upper grade students are eager and motivated to make our school a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued!
