YWCPA is a middle and high school for Title I girls who are low income. Our girls participate in a rigorous College Readiness and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) program. All core curriculum classes at the school are either Pre-Advanced Placement or Advanced Placement. Also offered are Dual Credit classes that allow high school students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. All high school students are required to pursue the Distinguished Graduation track, which is optional in most HISD schools.
As we celebrate and honor their accomplishments, we remember that our campus in a Title I school with students who are low income and struggle to meet everyday needs.
My Project
While we are excited that our students are accepted into college, we want to lift the burden of some of their college dormitory needs. Since we are a small campus, we would like to uphold a campus tradition for our graduating seniors by filling footlockers with basic college dorm necessities.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase items to fill 50 footlockers.
We will fill these trunks with items that students need to prepare for living on campus. These items will help our Title I students get supplies that they need to start the process of living in a college dorm.
