This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! As part of a small learning community, they have learned the importance and beauty of building strong relationships with both each other and their teachers.
We are so fortunate to be part of such a vibrant and diverse community that gets to learn and grow together.
My students are strong and determined, not letting anything get in their way.
My hope is to help them continue their love of learning for the sake of learning. As a literature lover and teacher, I want all my students to see the importance of literature to themselves, society and the world.
My Project
These materials will help create a library/coffee shop like setting in a portion of the classroom, facilitating more seating options for independent study, small study groups and an area to engage with literature.
Giving students choice and agency with regard to seating and reading materials, creates a strong sense of buy in and as a result success and continued engagement.
The requested materials will allow my students to access literature that is culturally relevant to them and their experience. In addition, the alternative seating allows my upperclassmen to get a sense of the freedom and format they will be seeing in college.
