This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a title 1 school with 100% eligibility, meaning that ALL students fall below the minimum income level. My kids face many obstacles every day, including poverty, early pregnancy, and gang violence. These obstacles could easily distract any child from succeeding.
In spite of these obstacles, my 6th grade class has made a commitment as a class to not only graduate from high school, but to also graduate from college!
In order to help them achieve their ultimate goal of college graduation, we would like to integrate as much technology into the class as possible. I would love to be able to move around the room and help students with their work while I deliver the lesson. Having a wireless tablet would allow me the freedom to do this, as I would not be as tied to the computer or projector. Students would also be able to use the tablet to share their work with the entire class from various locations in the room.
My Project
It is important to provide students with the most current technology, especially in a math class. Technology peaks the interest of my video game obsessed students and gives us an increased ability to think more critically in class. I am requesting a wireless tablet so that my students can receive an education where technology is integrated at all times. Integrating this device into the classroom gives my students a quality education more comparable to that of students from more affluent neighborhoods. Understanding technology is a necessary task in helping them to reach their ultimate goal of college graduation.
All of my students are encouraged to go to college.
These materials will help to prepare them for college in that I can better promote strong math skills and study habits. I always tell them that if they choose to put in the effort, the community will choose to support them in their endeavor. As members of your community, we very much welcome and appreciate your support!
