This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Spanish teacher in the public schools. I teach 170 students each day. My school prepares my students in the health and human services field. It is a high need school and most students receive free or reduced lunch.
My school has a few overhead projectors and most are outdated and do not work or are very limited. My dream has been to acquire an lcd projector and a digital camera that can allow my students to use multiple media devices to facilitate their learning. Learning and teaching Spanish is about visuals and these devices will help and improve student learning in the classroom and prepare them for their future college experience.
An LCD projector will facilitate student learning as I can present my students with sample work of the Spanish state Regents exams. Most of my students need extra writing assistance and this will allow me to show sample writing documents for my beginners and advanced students. I can incorporate a variety of visuals in my lessons where all students can see from their seats. I can show Spanish movies and not depend on a tv/vcr which is very limited in my school. Another device that my students can benefit from is a digital camera. I use a variety of photographs in my classrooms for oral discussions and presentations. We often go on field trips and I do many on-hands projects where I like to take pictures of their work and exhibit their work on bulletin boards and on powerpoint/slideshow presentations. Aside from taking pictures, a digital camera will be used to create and edit Spanish videos which can then be seen through the lcd projector.
Our school budget does not allow for these technology devices. They are very limited and are rarely used. My students deserve the opportunity to have a variety of teaching tools to enhance their learning.
