Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are gifted, vibrant, and enthusiastic, but many of them face unimaginable challenges in their lives outside of school. Despite these difficulties, they choose to attend a school with a longer school day, a rigorous curriculum, and high expectations.
Our goal every day is to redefine possible and to do whatever it takes to ensure students are ready for college.
For the majority of my students, they will be the first in their families to go to college, and it is my job to ensure they will be prepared for everything they will encounter.
My Project
As we begin the second semester, we are getting closer and closer to our first class of seniors graduating. In order to ensure they are as prepared as possible for college, I want to ensure that they have plenty of higher level, engaging texts that will help them learn to appreciate and love reading well beyond high school.
My students are a brilliant, diverse group of young adults, and I want to make sure that the texts in my classroom reflect that diversity.
Additionally, my class focuses primarily on non-fiction texts, meaning that my students aren't able to focus as much on fiction in class. To compensate for that, I want to make sure that my classroom library offers a strong mix of both fiction and non-fiction texts.
