This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Spanish teacher in the public schools. I teach 170 students each day. My school prepares my students in the health and human services field. It is a high need school and most students receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are fascinated by technology lessons, but these are very limited since students have limited computer usage in the school. There is only one computer lab and preference is given to senior classes. My students are freshman and sophomores and never get to use them. I want to exposed them to more technology, especially designing a small language lab in the classroom. There are so many activities that I want to do with them, but without the resources this is very impossible.
My goal is to get two netbooks so I can begin developing a small language lab that students can utilize to gain better listening skills using audio books and the online internet stories/pronunciation practice. The skills that they will acquire will help them for their Spanish language lab college courses. If I prepare them beforehand, students will enter college with a better understanding and concept of listening and technological skills. Student will be taking countless pictures and describing them in Spanish and doing oral presentations. Creating, editing and writing their own Spanish videos will also be implemented. Using these netbooks will enhance their learning. My students are also in need of iPod speakers. These speakers will allow students to also listen to the Spanish radio and news. Ipods have so many resources that the class will able to listen to educational podcasts and applications.
You will make it possible for my students to acquire two netbooks and iPod speakers for better listening skills, creating videos and photo projects for a class of 34. Technology is so important in high school and this will definitely prepare them for college. All students deserve this opportunity. Your contribution to my project is greatly appreciated.
