We need school supplies (especially backpacks and the basics) for deserving students. Pens, pencils, notebooks, calendars, even snacks are all things they cannot afford on their own!
The Knights College Ambassadors is a student-led and school-sponsored club at West Bladen High School. It began last school year with 18 juniors and seniors. This year, we have an astounding 55 juniors and seniors. The club officers leading the project are India (President), Deautise (Vice President), Trey (Treasurer) and Myesha (Secretary).
We created a project that will benefit the seniors of the class of 2018. At the end of the school year, we have a "May Day" celebration to highlight students going to college and enlisting in the military. We want to collect school supplies such as notebooks, planners, pens, pencils, snacks and even portable charges that they can use in their final semester of high school but also to be prepared as they go to college in the Fall.
Our senior class faces challenges such as living below the poverty line, foster care, homelessness, mixed-status families, etc. As a student-led organization, we want to serve the student population as a whole. Our group works as mentors and peer motivators. It will take teamwork and empathy to make this project a success but I am excited to involve the Knights College Ambassadors in a project like this because it will equip them to put others' needs above theirs now and in the future. We are collecting school supplies: notebooks, planners, pens, pencils, snacks and even portable charges that they can use when they go to college in class every day. These items will relieve the financial burdens that almost all our students and peers face.
In Their Own Words
We want to give back to other seniors. Not everyone can afford these items and it is hard to ask for help at times. I hope we can give these backpacks and care packages to seniors in need. Thank you Donors Choose for believing in us already and this idea.
We will take this opportunity towards the projects our club is doing this year. We also want to do more fundraising and service projects in the future, so I think this is a great place to start. It will take us sharing about the project and promoting it too for it to be successful.
This project is very important to us and our community. We live in an area that most kids don't go to college. By collecting these items, it will help the ones who really need it. We will have to overcome the lack of money here but hopefully by getting the word out, we can make it happen.
