College Decision Day 2018

My students need laptops, printers, ink and technology in order to be well prepared for college courses! We will have a celebration to recognize their achievements and commitment to higher education.

My Students

Our school is located in rural southern Virginia and offers a sense of community for our students. Over half of the student body receives free or reduced lunch and many of my seniors that plan to attend college next year are first generation.

My students are very enthusiastic about their future prospects and work hard in all areas of their lives, often balancing AP courses, 30 hour/week jobs, extracurriculars and family obligations.

It is truly amazing to witness their accomplishments thus far.

My Project

My students are highly motivated to learn and work inside and outside of the classroom. These materials will be used on a daily basis in the classroom, library and at home and will help them be prepared going into the college arena so that they can compete with their peers and excel in their studies. A Chromebook will allow the student to take notes, do research, and collaborate with peers-- all necessary parts of the college educational experience. Likewise, the Fire Tablet is used for quick access to materials and has the option for note-taking and presentations. Finally, the HP printer is essential since students will have to print their own papers and scan or copy notes or materials for class. Each of these three items will grant to student access to information and the ability to work independently at college.

Many of my students do not have the money to purchase a laptop, tablet or printer, and this project will provide them with the ease that personal technology facilitates.

It also lessens their financial burden and allows them to allocate more of their hard-earned money and scholarships towards tuition, fees, room and board.
