This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I know my students are brilliant; their scores on gatekeeping exams like the AP, SAT, and ACT should reflect their knowledge and hard effort. Holding them back from higher scores is a lack of familiarity with these tests. They would benefit immensely from the extra practice in these study guides.
This year, I have students in three different AP courses: Computer Science, Calculus AB, and Biology.
Many students love STEM so much that they take more than one STEM-related AP course. All of my students have aspirations to go to college -- many of them will be first-generation -- and become engineers, software developers, doctors, nurses, teachers, etc. All students are UC/CSU-eligible and some look at private schools like Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Santa Clara University, among others. They all have big exams, like midterms, finals, and certifications, in their future.
My Project
Each student would receive their own workbook for the AP class in which they are enrolled. They would be required to do practice outside of class, and could use the text to supplement what we learn in class. Additionally, the SAT and ACT books would be used to provide additional preparation for these college entrance exams. I intend to use the books in after school SAT and ACT prep tutoring sessions.
These books will make a difference to my students because it will allow them to have a text reference with preparatory questions to move them towards confidence on some of their most stressful, college-ready exams.
Thank you for giving them materials for extra practice!
