Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-gen Latinx college student from an immigrant family, one of my goals as an educator is to motivate and inspire my students to attend the colleges of their dreams! In order to do this, I try to make my classroom as warm and welcoming as possible. It is my responsibility to encourage my students to set goals and dream big. They have dreams of being doctors, professional athletes, lawyers, and even teachers! In order to help them achieve their goals, I try to strongly encourage students to go to college. My students come from a variety of backgrounds but the majority are low-income, Latinx students and many come from families who migrated to the US from other countries. As someone who shares these identities with my students, I know firsthand how scary college can feel and the idea of going to college may seem impossible. Showing them what it takes the reach their dreams means giving them opportunities to learn more about colleges they could pursue.
These pennants will make a huge difference to my students as they will be used for inspiration and engagement so students can begin to decide where they want to attend college.
