Collaborative Hands-On Learning With OSMO

My Students

I am thrilled to teach first grade at a Title 1 school in Concord, California. Roughly 67% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, 34% are English Language Learners, and we offer a free after school CARES program which provides homework support, supervision, a continued sense of community, and even dinner.

As my students would tell you, they love learning, working together, and developing compassion and tolerance through the controlled chaos of first grade!

They are open-minded, thoughtful, and excited to come to school every day. We know that for our students to be successful in education and future careers they need access to a variety of learning opportunities, using several modalities. Many of our students do not have access to computers or tablets at home. Our school works hard to provide our students with the tools for their success in education today, to nurture future civic minded, skilled individuals for tomorrow.

My Project

The beauty of OSMO is that it engages students to work together to achieve a common goal through technology. It lowers apprehension to converse for our English Language Learners, making learning fun for all. OSMO engages hands-on tactile, visual, sound, colors and patterns, reading skills, and art, having students think creatively and collaboratively while working with their partner.

The OSMO technology becomes an active tool for higher order thinking skills, while developing their social skills and furthering their learning in more advanced concepts.

OSMO will be used daily during Reading Groups as well as every Friday during our Genius Hour where they explore, inquire, discover and learn about something that is of interest to them. OSMO will help inspire STEM, collaboration, communication, and socio-emotional growth across the curriculum for all our students.
