I have some pretty wonderful students. I teach 6th grade English and have 3 classes that I see for 90 minute blocks. One class is of Accelerated students and the other two are On Grade Level students. My groups are made up of students from all different reading levels and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are dedicated to their academics and interested in success. Much of our work is done collaboratively with our peers. As sixth graders, they are being introduced to higher level discussions about their reading. They have been very enthusiastic about working more with their peers and learning from one another.
My Project
My students spend a lot of time working in collaborative groups, especially for Literature Lab, when they read novels together. Our big, bulky, traditional secondary school desks do not allow my students to easily move into collaborative groups and then back to individual work stations. This project would fund enough desks and chairs for one group of six students. My hope it to one day replace all of my desks with ones that offer flexible seating arrangements. I am super excited for this project and appreciate any help you are willing to give. I know my kids will appreciate it too!
