My students want to learn from and with their peers, and research shows that adolescents learn best from each other. Students engage in rich and passionate discussions in my class that prepare them for both life and college. In class, students learn how to respectfully disagree with one another, voice their opinions, listen to other people’s opinions, construct effective and academic discussions, as well as discuss literature and novels with our free choice and literature circles. Currently, my classroom seating and room does not allow for comfortable group seating and discussions.
Having more flexible and collaborative seating would allow for more success, engagement, and learning to take place in the classroom.
I almost have a full set of these desks and only need THREE more to make a complete classroom set of 36. Now that we can go back to grouping together this year (thank goodness), please help me get the last desks I need for a full class set! The old traditional desks are hard to get in and out of and are not meant to be next to each other. They are not configurable in a way that maximizes learning and collaboration with peers. The desks I am asking for allow for more flexibility, comfort, and engagement. The desks can be configured for partner work, group work, and Socratic Seminars, as well as independent work in a very easy and non-disruptive manner. The collaboration that takes place encourages building relationships and social emotional skills that our youth so desperately need.
