Help me give my students flexible seating and workspace options that encourage a collaborative learning environment. Students will have the option to work independently or in groups where they feel most comfortable and productive.
My students are enrolled in a rigorous STEAM program that focuses on challenging gifted and high achieving students in a project-based environment. These inquisitive middle schoolers are highly capable, driven by a genuine love of learning and thrive when working collaboratively. Regardless of their individual strengths or diverse learning styles, I know all students will benefit from being back in the classroom, together.
My Project
My goal is to transform my traditional classroom setting into a collaborative learning space that offers options for all students to learn where they feel most comfortable and creative.
Creating a classroom environment with flexible seating options encourages student autonomy, natural movement and opportunities to engage meaningfully with peers.
In addition to traditional seating, students will be able to choose new work spaces such as height adjustable rolling desks, classroom "cafe" (patio furniture), or cozying up on floor pillows. My hope is that every student will find a space that works best for their needs every day.
One big take away from learning remotely last year is that our workspace matters. We are more productive and use our time most effectively when we have a comfortable space to engage and learn.
