My students live in a low-income neighborhood that does not offer many opportunities to grow outside of the school. Our school is 98% African American and over 90% low income.
At our school, we try to BE the Difference.
Our school is a safe and stable environment for our students. We provide motivation and encouragement on a daily basis. Our students see our school as a place for them to explore their talents and learn.
We provide our students with opportunities to learn world languages, art, dance, and music, as well as their core subjects of reading, math, science, and social studies.
I am asking for two carpets. The larger of the two carpets will be used in my classrooms collaborative floor space. Students sit in this area in pairs up to groups of four to work on their projects. Currently the floor is bare, which makes it chilly in the winter. The second smaller rug will be used in the teacher mini-lesson space. Currently students bring carpet squares to sit on, however these squares are old and stained. A new carpet for this area will help students be more comfortable during their small group sessions with me.
Having floor seating available is a must in my room, as it provides a differentiated space for small group work.
Students have different learning needs, and these carpets will help to provide flexible seating options.
