Collaboration Stations

My students need seating options that allows for collaboration. These tables will allow groupings from 4 - 14 depending upon the daily set up for the task at hand.

My Students

My 6th grade students are the best around. They come from three different elementary schools in the district and blend into a perfect community. We practice the philosophy that practice make progress and that you can only fail if you do not try.

I have 90 beautiful minds who love to collaborate and persevere through meaningful tasks.

The students use math talk in order to grow their understanding of the curriculum. They are allowed to collaborate throughout each class so that they learn the content more than just at the surface. In this way, they can relate the concepts from their 6th grade year throughout all the other math courses they will take in their educational career.

My Project

Everyday offers a new opportunity to deepen your learning. Middle school aged students learn best when they can explore their learning through communication. I am a firm believer that if you can explain a math problem using proper terms, you have learned it for life.

Transferring knowledge from one math concept to the next is best built through collaboration and exploring the many different ways to solve problems.

I believe that by having tables for students to gather around will help to build a community of lifetime math learners. Just imagine the excitement of real math talk taking place and the amount of deep understanding that will come from a comfortable place to gather and work. This is the entire reason for asking for rectangular tables for the classroom.
