My students are awesome kids. I know we all like to think our students are the best, but the students at CMS really are outstanding. Most impressive, though, is how my students are able to overcome adversity to be outstanding.
Approximately 73% of the students in my school receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite having to face the burdens of poverty, my students enjoy having high quality materials while at school, and my goal is to provide them with the best experience possible. We just need a little help to make that possible!
My Project
I would like to create a collaboration station where students can sit to work on digital projects together. I would have the screen mounted behind the table, and students could sit around the table while all looking at the same screen to collaborate on a single project. This station would be ideal for creating presentations, editing writing, or working on other group projects.
I have seen this arrangement used in libraries and in other schools, which is where I got the idea for this project.
I would love to be able to give my language arts students a place to work on projects. I envision this space being used to create slide presentations, to create video recordings of reading, to take turns giving feedback to one another on writing pieces, and to collaborate on endless other projects. Collaboration is becoming more and more valued by colleges and employers, so I believe creating spaces to foster collaboration within the classroom is essential.
In addition to using this space for those projects with my language arts students, I am also the advisor for our school's literary magazine. This station would be an excellent space for our magazine's student editors to meet and work on the magazine together.
