Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our kindergarten and 1st grade team has been studying collaboration in the classroom this school year. We have been researching and implementing practices within our classrooms to help instill the value of collaboration as a means to learning.
"We care about each other, and we care about each other's ideas!" We want students to know that they are within a community of learners that support one another and help each other move towards our common goal of learning, especially by understanding and working through our mistakes and struggles.
Materials from this project would support students in developing the skills and culture of collaboration in low-stake and fun, engaging ways. Working together while playing board games and building puzzles will give students the opportunity to practice skills such as taking turns, listening to each other, communicating clearly, and building relationships with peers, which is foundational to having the trust necessary to take risks in learning. Many of the games in this project are also educational, offering opportunities to practice math and reading skills while collaborating during centers and small group time. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card would allow us to purchase pre-made printable file folder games that feature targeted skills for literacy and math fluency.
