My Students
"Teachers who love teaching teach children to love learning." After 17 years as a public school teacher, I still wake up every day as excited about my job as when I was just starting out. It is such a gift to plan lessons, activities, and experiences for my Resource students.
My kindergarten through third grade Resource classroom is my dream assignment: wonderful students, supportive administration, skilled colleagues and amazing families.
At my school, my colleagues and I have created a collaborative model for teaching and learning. We are constantly working together to learn new techniques and fine tune our lessons and strategies. In my current position, I feel my team embodies the professionalism and expertise I learned about while completing my graduate teacher training program, as well as my Master's program.
My Project
A new iPad Mini will allow my fellow teachers and me to create and plan more effective lessons. We can access internet resources more easily, as well as record and share lessons. This year has been a math focus year for my school, as our school district is implementing new national Common Core math standards. My team and I can utilize lesson plans and resources on the wonderful Engage New York math website, as it's packed with units and lessons to support our new standards. I can easily record myself, or a colleague, demonstrating a model lesson we find through the Engage New York website, or the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) website. After collecting videos and photos, my colleagues and I can work as a group to critique and build upon lessons we have created. We can use graphing and word documents on the iPad mini to plan collaboratively and strategically. This will allow us to provide strong lessons for our students.
The iPad Mini will allow me to create and deliver lessons which will assist my teacher colleagues and myself in becoming more effective in the classroom.
With the iPad Mini, we can record and document lessons so that we can later review, reflect and study them for effectiveness. As George Evans famously said, "Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way." The iPad Mini will help my colleagues and me construct lessons to help every student learn, in every way, every day
